
After overpowering Libya, Niger and Congo in Group B, the Democratic Republic of Congo, two times winner of the African Nations Championship are taking on Cameroon in the quarter finals stage of the competition.
Despite being handicapped by the coronavirus, infecting twelve of the thirty three man squad, coach Florent Ibengue is upbeat that they will be as performant to beat the intermediate Lions for a ticket to the semi finals.
Three out of the twelve persons infected by the coronavirus have been declared negative among which is coach Florent Ibengue who missed out on two games in the group stage.
Coach Ibengue said in a pre match press conference that although he was in confinement he still had time to virtually coordinate his team with the help of other team managers.
Florent Ibengue, reminded of the stakes of the match agreed it is going to be a very crucial game considering they are playing against the host country.
He said he felt no pressure and will put in his best to make sure the Leopards out perform themselves in order to give him a victory.
Coach Ibengue rather evoked uncertainty when it came to the quality of the team he will put forward for Saturday’s game.
Ibengue agreed that his players are all good but he is not definite yet about the team he is putting in to play until new results of the coronavirus test conducted on them are released.
The Democratic Republic of Congo are regarded as the favourites in the competition with two championship tities to their name.
However they have never beaten Cameroon in any CHAN game. Of the eight times the Intermediate Lions have gone against the Leopards of DRC, the Lion’s have beaten them five times and tied three games.
Saturday’s game ganner a lot of attention as both teams playing are strong football nations and tickets for the encounter are already sold out.
