The livelihoods of socially vulnerable persons in Cameroon will be improved following a partnership agreement signed on August 8, by eBASE Africa and the Ministry of Social Affairs in Yaounde.
The Team Lead for eBASE Africa, Dr. Okwen Patrick signed for his organization, while the Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Itoh Beryl Ikombe Panje, signed for the Ministry of Social Affairs.

“This agreement will ensure protection of socially vulnerable, promote their projects and make them autonomous,”Itoh Beryl Ikombe Panje said.
“The idea of this partnership is to give an opportunity for civil society to support the efforts of the government especially for an emerging Cameroon that’s more inclusive by 2033,” Dr. Okwen Patrick, Team Lead for eBASE Africa told CRTV Web.
eBASE also wants to facilitate access to research evidence for government officials and other decision makers.
“We also have to support the Ministry to build capacity in research evidence in programs, policies and projects, Dr. Okwen added.
The Beneficiaries
In 2022, eBASE implemented 6 projects that were beneficial to socially vulnerable persons. A total of 123 internally displaced persons, single and teenage mothers were empowered and reintegrated into the society. These vulnerable persons each received FCFA 100,000 financial assistance to start income generating activities. The civil society organization also provided financial support to over 3000 victims of gender based violence in four regions; Far North, East, North West and South West regions.
Following the signing of this partnership agreement, children, women, persons with disabilities, internally displaced persons, rural populations and indigenous peoples like the Baka, Bakola, Bagyeli, Bedjang, Bororos will receive similar support to improve their livelihoods and ultimately become financially autonomous.
“Our target areas mostly in health and education is ensuring that we can have income -generating activities that support vulnerable groups. We can support girls to make sure they go to school, stay in school and have a good quality of learning,” Dr. Okwen Patrick, Team Lead for eBASE Africa said.
The three-year partnership will also ensure the prevention of juvenile delinquency, fight against social exclusion, human trafficking, all forms of abuse, drug consumption and protect persons with disabilities.
eBASE is a civil society organization whose mission is to “make basic services, health and education especially, more effective through the use of best available evidence and technology within the evidence ecosystem.”
