
Members of the National Assembly have expressed satisfaction following the release of the the women abducted in the Mezam division of the North West region by armed groups on May 20, 2023.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Dribril expressed the emotions in his speech at the opening plenary of the June session of parliament this June 8, 2023 at the Yaounde Conference Centre.
They condemned vehemently such reprehensible acts which puts the peace of the country in jeopardy.
Cavaye Yeguie Dribril said the National Assembly also disapproves of the collection of “local taxes” by armed groups. Worse still, the collection of taxes by such groups which tends to portray Cameroon as a state within a state.
“Cameroon is ONE and INDIVISIBLE.” the Speaker said.
Together with his peers, they condemned other kidnapping incidents in the crisis stricken regions.
Recent public health crisis were also brought up at the opening ceremony.
It was made clear that everyone should still remain alert as risk of the Covid-19 spreading still looms.
Cameroon has recently witnessed the spread of cholera and the monkey pox virus in the past few months.
The National Assembly expressed satisfaction with the measures implemented by the government and healthcare services to control the spread of these diseases.
Cavaye Yeguie Dribril called on all especially local councils to get engaged in the fight against pandemics. He prescribed vaccination, communications against such viruses and creating access to clean water in order to avoid such health pathologies.
As the end of year official examinations unfold nationwide, the house appreciated the good conduct of how they are unfolding and urged for vigilance throughout the process.
The House Speaker also appreciated members of the house who did outstanding work during the break they had from the first ordinary session of the year.
In attendance of the opening plenary sitting was the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, cabinet ministers and members of the diplomatic corp.
